About

Basketball Northern Ireland is the governing body for the sport of basketball in Northern Ireland. The organisation exists to promote and develop the sport at both participation and performance level.

Affiliated clubs of Basketball Northern Ireland are supported through the provision of local leagues and annual tournaments at junior, senior female and senior male level. Outreach basketball activities take place through the delivery of funded projects in local schools and community settings. Basketball Northern Ireland also co-ordinates the delivery of a series of volunteer education courses between each season to further develop participation at all levels.

Our work

S3 Solutions has worked with the Old Library Trust Healthy Living Centre since 2015. Our consulting team were engaged initially to carry out an evaluation of the Derry Engaging and Empowering Dementia project, this report was published by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. A key recommendation of the report was that the project should seek to secure longer term sustainable funding to enable it to continue and grow.

Subsequently, the OLT HLC subscribed to our funding support service to assist the organisation access longer term revenue funds for both core and project staff.  Our team assisted OLT staff to develop surveys to consult with the local community about needs and priorities, this resulted in the design of an evolved DEEDs project which aims to support people to live better within their own communities. S3 supported an application to the National Lottery Community Fund in 2017/2018, this was awarded £504,000 and is now being delivered in partnership with Strabane and District Caring Services, Learmount Community Development Group, Hillcrest Trust, Caw Nelson Drive Action Group and Shantallow Community Centre.

Through ongoing engagement with the Chief Executive at OLT, we explore the organisations needs and have assisted in facilitating discussions regarding strategic planning and evaluation. In 2019, we supported the organisation to submit a tender to The Executive Office Communities in Transitions programme which secured more than £350,000 to deliver important health and wellbeing work for local people.
